In the world of golf, talent knows no age, and eight-year-old Zachary Blayney (image credit) from Hockley near Southend is proving just that.
This young golf prodigy has not only clinched awards but has now been handpicked by six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo to be the ambassador for his junior tour in 2024.
So, how did such a young boy develop into a future golf star?
Zachary’s Early Beginnings
Zachary’s love affair with golf began at an astonishingly early age—18 months old to be precise. Hailing from Hockley, Essex, this young golfer has been making waves in the golfing community, showcasing unparalleled skills that have caught the attention of seasoned professionals.
Sir Nick Faldo’s Seal of Approval
Imagine being recognised and handpicked by none other than Sir Nick Faldo, a legend in the golfing world with six major titles to his name.
Zachary’s impressive talent has earned him the coveted role of ambassador for Sir Nick Faldo’s junior tour, the Faldo Futures Junior Tour, set to kick off in 2024. This is a tremendous honour for an eight-year-old golfer, and Zachary is ready to embrace the opportunity with enthusiasm.
Triumph in International Competition
In a recent international competition, Zachary claimed the title of having the Best Golf Swing in the World for his age group. This achievement speaks volumes about his skills and sets the stage for what promises to be a stellar golfing career.
Faldo Futures Junior Tour 2024
Zachary, with a handicap of 12.3, is geared up to compete against youngsters aged seven to 12 from across the country as part of the Faldo Futures Junior Tour in 2024.
The tour will see children from various golf clubs participating in qualifying events, with the top two players from each section advancing to the regional finals. The culmination of the tour will be the Faldo Futures Final at The Belfry near Birmingham.
The young golfer’s ambitions are as impressive as his swing. Zachary expresses his next goal as continuing to play on a British junior tour for kids up to 12 and harbours aspirations of winning some major tournaments. His dedication to the sport is evident, as he sets his sights on achieving more milestones in the years to come.
A Supportive Family
Zachary’s journey wouldn’t be complete without acknowledging the role of his family, particularly his dad, Scott, who also plays off a 12 handicap. Despite facing tough competition from his son, Scott beams with pride at Zachary’s accomplishments. The family’s support and sacrifices have played a crucial role in nurturing Zachary’s talent and dedication to the sport.
His dad said: “We’re obviously very incredibly proud of his achievements over the last couple of years.
“I mean he works very, very hard and he misses out on a lot of things. When his friends are at birthday parties. he is out practising or we are away for the weekend, playing events.”
